Is Bodyweight Exercise Enough?
In episode 9, I touch on a viewer question of whether or not using bodyweight exercises at home is enough to stimulate strength and muscle growth.
As I mention in the video, you definitely can build an appreciable amount of muscle and strength using primarily bodyweight exercises or at least with the use of little resistance, such as using things in your surroundings. However, eventually it can become a bit difficult to continue progressing if you decide to opt for bodyweight only.
Being able to practice progressive overload is imperative for growth. At the gym, this can be accomplished via a number of different mechanisms. With bodyweight only, this becomes a bit difficult, as a eventually you might require a ridiculous amount of repetitions per day to actually stimulate the growth you desire.
Not to mention, it depends largely on your overall goal. If you just want to get healthier, then sure bodyweight exercise will suffice. However, if you want to be a powerlifter, you actually have to train with weights. No amount of bodyweight squats will help you squat 500 lbs.
